Why Spend Easter weekend at Rainbow Casino

Easter weekend is a time for people to celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection and is the most important holiday in Christianity. Christians believe Jesus was crucified on Good Friday, and resurrected three days later. Most Christian churches will celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the full moon after March 21st (the vernal equinox). This means that Easter could fall anywhere between March 22nd and April 25th.

There are a number of traditional foods that are eaten around Easter, including hot cross buns, Easter eggs and lamb.

A traditional hot cross bun is a yeasted, sweet dough that is lightly spiced and studded with raisins or currants throughout. The bun is then marked on top with a cross either with icing or etched into the dough itself. Nowadays hot cross buns are sold throughout the year, though they were once reserved for Easter only.

There is no real explanation for why hot cross buns are traditionally enjoyed over Easter celebrations. Though many people like to believe it is due to the Christian symbolism located on the top of the bun, there are several theories.

Easter eggs are also an Easter tradition enjoyed by many year after year. Eggs are a symbol of fertility, rebirth and the beginning, which is why they tie in nicely with Easter and the resurrection of Christ. Some Christians even regard the egg as a symbol for the stone being rolled from Jesus’ tomb.

However, even before the birth of Christianity as a religion, the egg was always seen as a symbol of spring; a celebration of the rebirth and reinvigoration after the harsh winter weather.

Initially, the church insisted that no eggs were allowed to be eaten in the week leading up to Easter. Any eggs that were laid during this week were saved, decorated and given as gifts. The earliest eggs that were given as gifts around Easter were hen or duck eggs that had been decorated in bright colours.

Victorians soon adapted this tradition with satin covered cardboard eggs that were filled with Easter gifts and treats. The Easter Bunny comes from a similar tradition; rabbits usually give birth to a large litter of kittens, which is why they quickly became a symbol of new life.

Traditionally, the Easter bunny lays, decorates and hides eggs as they are a symbol of new life.
